Combattante SWAO 53

The Combattante SWAO 53 is revolutionary stealth ship concept with a unique outrigger hull design, fitted with a large capable of accommodating both helicopters and UAVs. SWAO stands for "Small waterplane area outrigger".

With a lenght of 53 meters and width of 16 meters, the Combattante SWAO 53 is capable of reaching 30 knots. Its weapon systems consist in a 57mm main gun, two 30mm remote weapon stations and 8 VLS tubes for Surface-to-Air missiles. The crew consists in 26 sailors with accommodations for 9 passengers. Navigation, radars, and electronic warfare sensors are all grouped in a single integrated mast.

Combattante FS 56

The Combattante FS 56 is a compact ship with a stealth design capable of high speeds and strong firepower actions for anti-surface warfare and land attack missions. Those qualities make the Combattante FS 56 the vessel of choice when surveillance and attack are key requirements.

With a length of 56 meters and width of 8.2 meters, the Combattante FS 56 is capable of reaching an impressive 38 knots. Its weapon systems consist in a 76mm main gun (Capable of deploying Oto Melara's Vulcano rounds for Land Attack missions) and a 40mm secondary gun at the stern, two 30mm remote weapon stations and 8 MM40 Exocet anti-ship missiles. The crew consists in 32 sailors. The main bridge offers a panoramic 360° visibility. As with the Combattante SWAO 53, navigation, radars, and electronic warfare sensors are all grouped in a single integrated mast.

DCNS to unveil new FREMM Frigate variant, updated BRAVE supply ship design at Euronaval 2012

Contacted by Navy Recognition DCNS and Thales representatives would not give details on the new radar system, explaining details would be made public during Euronaval. Regarding the vessel itself however, DCNS told us that a FREMM-ER would be able to fulfill the exact same missions as the current FREMM. Indeed, FREMM-ER has the same multi-mission capabilities as FREMM, in particular extensions capability can be installed on FREMM-ER such as:

- Increased ASW capabilities with a VDS (variable depth sonar)

- Increased land attack capabilities with MDCN (Scalp Naval by MBDA)

FREMM-ER's CIC (Combat Information Center) shares the same characteristics as the CIC found on FREMM:

- Large workstations

- Multipurpose Consoles

- Modular configuration

The SETIS modular CMS (Combat Management System) developed by DCNS and the CIC area can implement new and future innovations as they become mature. In FREMM-ER, sailors for example will be able to use augmented reality in the fight against asymmetric threats.

The BRAVE main missions include:

» Refuel and support all types of vessels at sea (Aircraft carriers, large & small surface vessels, submarines);

» Support force projection operations;

» Command and control of maritime operations;

» Support humanitarian operations.

Visiblement la demi coque en plus est un "swath" c'est un peu l'inovation du truc. L'avantage c'est probablement la stabilité malgré la faiblre taille de la plateforme. Le machin reste tout petit, a peine 50m de long, et probablement pas bien lourd.

53 m de long, 16 m de large et 2,60 m de tirant d'eau, la Combattante SWAO 53 va en étonner plus d'un. « Concept révolutionnaire », affirme le chantier naval de Cherbourg. La semaine prochaine, il va présenter ce nouveau patrouilleur multifonctions au salon Euronaval. Il s'agit d'une version très innovante des Combattantes. Une série qui a fait la réputation des CMN depuis les fameuses vedettes israéliennes. Cinq d'entre elles, placées sous embargo, avaient quitté le port du Cotentin sans autorisation dans la nuit de Noël 1969. Leur périple avait fait la Une de la presse mondiale et valu un fameux de coup de pub au chantier.

En présentant cette mouture moderne, les CMN ont bien l'intention de décoiffer une nouvelle fois l'opinion. « Ce navire furtif dispose d'une coque à balancier qui permet de développer une très large plateforme pour accueillir un hélicoptère ou des drones aériens (UAV). » Le navire est compact et discret. Les ingénieurs ont poussé très loin la notion de furtivité, gommant tout ce qui pourrait permettre de repérer le bâtiment. Ses trois moteurs entraînent deux lignes d'arbres d'hélices et fournissent une puissance de 9 900 kW. Un potentiel de chevaux qui permet d'afficher une vitesse de pointe élevée (30 noeuds) et une autonomie importante : 1 400 milles à 15 noeuds.

La silhouette de ce patrouilleur n'est pas banale. À mi-chemin entre le catamaran et le prao tahitien, il serait, selon le chantier, plus performant dans le mauvais temps qu'un navire à deux coques de même longueur tout en offrant une belle stabilité à la mer. Côté armement, le chantier bas-normand a sorti l'artillerie lourde : un canon 57 mm, plus deux canons 30 mm RWS et 8 missiles SAM à lancement vertical. « Sa puissance de feu est importante pour des actions de lutte anti-navire et d'actions vers la terre. C'est le navire de surveillance et d'attaque par excellence », vantent les concepteurs. Deux canots d'intervention rapide de 7 m sont également dissimulés dans les coques.
