Serge
Il fallait que cela sorte : Israeli Artillery Corps looks for a new self-propelled howitzer Yaakov Lappin, Tel Aviv - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 12 April 2015 The M109 has played a prominent role in most of the IDF's operations over the past four decades. Source: PA Photos The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are in the advanced stages of selecting a replacement for their 155 mm M109 self-propelled howitzer, a senior source from the Artillery Corps said last week. The officer said the new howitzer needs to be able to have a higher rate of fire and a smaller crew than the M109, which entered service in the early 1970s. The new gun also needs a longer range and the ability to rapidly relocate to a new position. The current howitzer can fire three shells a minute "on a good day" and requires 10 people to operate it, requiring more personnel to be called up for reserve duty so they can receive the necessary training, the officer added.
