Czech MoD recommends Nexter Titus MRAP purchase

The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) has recommended the government selects the Nexter Systems Titus 6x6 armoured vehicle to fulfil a CZK2.7 billion (USD111 million) requirement for 42 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) platforms for the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR).

MoD sources leaked information to local media at the end of September that the Titus outperformed the indigenously designed and manufactured SVOS Vega 4x4 armoured vehicle in ACR trials that incorporated seven parameters, with the former platform scoring 25 points versus 12 scored by the latter.

According to the MoD sources, the Titus, which utilises a 6x6 chassis supplied by Czech truck maker Tatra, is said to be CZK4.5 million cheaper than the Vega and has a superior turning radius and the ability to negotiate steeper terrain.

Speaking to IHS Jane's on 1 October, MoD spokesperson Petr Medek stated, "The main reason for selecting the Titus over the Vega is that Tatra signed an agreement with Nexter Systems to supply the chassis for the Titus and did not sign a similar agreement with SVOS to supply a chassis for the Vega. The MoD specified that the winning platform must be equipped with a Tatra chassis for commonality and logistical purposes."

The ACR has a requirement for two versions of the Titus platform: a command-and-control (C2) variant; and a communications variant.

All 42 vehicles will be manufactured and assembled at the Tatra Trucks production facility in Koprivnice, with deliveries to take place between 2019 and 2023.

The MoD has also urged the government to approve the selection of Tatra Trucks as the prime contractor to supply 41 modified Tatra 6x6 trucks worth more than CZK500 million to meet an urgent requirement for towing ACR 120 mm mortar systems.

The new Tatra vehicles will be equipped with a mine-resistant cab and will replace 1950s-era Praga V3S 6x6 vehicles, the technical state of which is considered to be beyond repair

Czech Army look to buy CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle to replace the Czech Republic’s BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle.

According to the British company, BAE Systems and VOP CZ have teamed up to pursue the Czech Republic’s BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle replacement programme. The two companies will combine efforts to deliver the CV90 vehicle for the Czech Land Forces.

The arrangement offers significant long-term industrial cooperation that will benefit VOP CZ and the Czech defence industry.

BAE Systems is the design authority and manufacturing lead for the CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), one of the most modern IFVs on the market and currently in production.

“BAE Systems is committed to building a strong working partnership with VOP CZ and Czech industry,” Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, president of BAE Systems Hägglunds, said. “The agreement with VOP CZ will create a strong team to support the Czech Armed Forces for many years ahead.”

VOP CZ has expertise in design, manufacturing, assembly, and engineering production, and specialises in integrating and supplying modern defence equipment and systems to meet the requirements of the Czech customer.

“The partnership with BAE Systems is a great opportunity for cooperation with one of the biggest defence companies worldwide,” Marek Špok, managing director of VOP CZ, said. “VOP CZ offers the highest level of technology, development and production capacity for this project so we are well positioned to fulfil the needs of the Czech Army. We hope the cooperation grows into a long-term relationship.”

There are more than 1,200 CV90 vehicles on contract for seven user nations globally.

BAE Systems Hägglunds has successfully fulfilled all its industrial investment commitments with the nations operating the CV90 platform, using a proven concept to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. This well-established industrial model has been implemented in Norway, Finland, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Denmark.

This industrial solution with VOP CZ aims to support job creation and technology transfer. BAE Systems employs an innovative approach toward industrial cooperation, including marketing support to new markets and support to small-to-medium enterprise companies.

La République tchèque fait l'acquisition de FN MINIMI

Fin décembre 2021, le ministère tchèque de la Défense a signé un contrat avec un importateur local pour la livraison d'un total de 949 mitrailleuses MINIMI du fabricant belge Fabrique Nationale Herstal. C'est ce qu'a annoncé le ministère de la Défense de la République tchèque. Cette acquisition doit permettre de renforcer l'interopérabilité des forces armées tchèques avec l'OTAN.

Le contrat-cadre conclu entre le représentant de l'importateur tchèque FN Hertsal CB SERVIS CENTRUM et le vice-ministre de l'armement et des achats, Lubor Koudelka, d'une valeur maximale de 45 millions d'euros, prévoit une livraison des armes jusqu'en 2025. La durée totale, y compris l'approvisionnement prévu en pièces de rechange, est toutefois fixée à dix ans. Selon le ministère de la Défense, le projet d'acquisition comprend des armes de calibre 5,56 mm x 45 et 7,62 mm x 51, sans que la clé de répartition ne soit précisée. Dans son communiqué, le ministère de la Défense a souligné que les armes fabriquées par FN remplaceront les mitrailleuses vieillissantes de la série PKM ou le vz. 59 de fabrication nationale dans les formations d'infanterie. Outre les mitrailleuses, le paquet comprend également, selon le communiqué, la livraison d'appareils de visée optroniques non spécifiés, de conteneurs de transport ainsi que d'un soutien à l'instruction et à la maintenance.

Les forces armées tchèques ne sont pas les premiers membres de l'ancien Pacte de Varsovie à avoir opté pour le système MINIMI éprouvé. En Pologne et en Hongrie, les forces spéciales utilisent déjà depuis des années la mitrailleuse de fabrication belge. Les forces spéciales tchèques ont également reçu environ 200 unités et les utilisent également dans le cadre d'opérations internationales. Introduite en 1982 dans les forces armées américaines sous le nom de M249, cette arme est aujourd'hui encore utilisée dans plus de 40 nations et n'a été commandée que l'automne dernier par les forces armées norvégiennes dans sa version Mk3 la plus récente.

Je ne pense pas que ça a déjà été discuté ailleurs (si c’est le cas, désolé pour le doublon): l’armée de terre tchèque va recevoir 15 Leopard 2A4 teutons et discute l’acquisition de jusqu’à 50 Leopard 2A7+, en remplacement des T-72M envoyés en Ukraine.
