Ben le problème c'est que les SA80 ont été passés au standard A2 par HK, et que ce standard apporte de grosses améliorations apparemment en termes de fiabilité, même si l'arme elle même a encore des défauts récurrents. Les Brits ont choisi cette option, alors que le passage de deux SA80 du standard A1 vers le standard A2 coute autant que l'achat d'un G36E neuf, donc à mon avis le remplacement des SA80 c'est pas pour demain :rolleyes:

A revolutionary transport concept for the BAE Systems M777 155mm howitzer is to make its international debut at Eurosatory. Developed in response to a specific UK MoD requirement (LIMAWS (G)) for an indirect fire solution to support the medium weight force, the M777 Portee system combines the ground breaking strengths of the worlds lightest 155mm howitzer with a purpose built vehicle developed by Supacat.

The integrated system has been extensively evaluated by the UK MoD as part of the LIMAWS (G) assessment phase, during which both tactical and strategic mobility were assessed and over 350 rounds fired in test conditions.

David Leslie, Sales Director of Land Systems says, The M777 Portee is the worlds most flexible artillery system, not only providing 24-hour indirect fire capability for the medium weight force, but also giving strategic and tactical deployment options never before available in a 155mm system. The M777 Portee demonstrates a unique combination of firepower and mobility with the potential to make a significant contribution to the MoDs medium weight capability requirements.

The 8x6 Portee System is a new vehicle design utilising suspension technology developed for Supacat's highly successful High Mobility Truck (HMT) 'family. These vehicles are now entering service in 2-axle and 3-axle form with both the UK and US armed forces. They offer a significant improvement in mobility over other wheeled military vehicles. The HMT suspension system makes the Portee ideally suited to operation over difficult and demanding terrain.

This Portee vehicle has the capability to transport the howitzer onto C-130 aircraft, amphibious craft as well as move as a compact system for longer road or cross country journeys. On reaching the combat area the howitzer is quickly dismounted, allowing it to be towed rapidly into and out of action and up to 3 ammunition containers can be carried in its place allowing a total of over 70 readily available rounds.

The HMT has been selected as the universal platform for a number of roles in the British Army, including mobile communications Ground Station, EW Ground Station, UAV Ground Station, lightweight mobile artillery platform (rocket) and for other specialized applications.

The system also offers complete interoperability with US forces as the M777 programme, now in full rate production for the US Marine Corps and US Army and in service with the Canadian Armed Forces, is designed and managed by the UK industry for the US Department of Defense. Interoperability is increased as the M777 can fire both US and UK ammunitions from the same barrel, including the XM982 Excalibur precision round, allowing it to achieve high levels of accuracy at ranges over 40km.

The 155mm howitzer combines titanium and aluminium alloys resulting in an overall system weight of less than 10000lbs (4218kg). The M777 is designed specifically to meet the growing requirement for flexible, easily re-deployable and accurate artillery fire and is equipped with a fully integrated digital fire control system the howitzer can be brought into action in less than one minute, and moved to an alternative firing position in less than three minutes.

Over 600 systems will be supplied to the US Marine Corps, the US Army and National Guard and the M777 entered operational service in Afghanistan with the Canadian Armed Forces earlier this year.

The speed of movement, deployability, rapid into and out of action times and overall manoeuvrability around the battlefield makes the howitzer 70% more effective than its predecessor, the M198, in terms of rounds fired and target effect, and also offers enhanced survivability. The M777 is designed to fire the most modern types of ammunition currently and is equipped with a fully integrated digital fire control system allowing it to be brought into action in less than one minute and moved to an alternative firing position in less than three minutes.

M777 is the most highly developed, rigorously tested, safe and reliable gun and weapon combination available to the worlds armed forces.

U.K. Army Gets ISTAR Boost With King Air Buy

The British Army Air Corps will take delivery of U.S.-built fixed-wing surveillance aircraft, part of an upgrade in aviation intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities for the land forces here.

The Army’s aviation wing will receive the first of a small number of King Air 350ER special mission aircraft later this year. Industry sources said deliveries would involve “a handful of aircraft.”

As the aircraft handover gets under way, the British Army also is scheduled to begin fielding a new fleet of tactical UAVs purchased under the Ministry of Defence’s urgent operational requirements scheme to aid troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although the King Air aircraft are built by Hawker Beechcraft, industry sources said the prime contractor will be Raytheon Systems. Raytheon owned Hawker Beechcraft until earlier this year.

The King Air acquisition will provide a major boost in ISTAR capability for the Army Air Corps. The Army’s aviation wing until now has had to rely on helicopters and a force of nine Britten-Norman Islander-based twin-engine aircraft for its surveillance duties.

The King Air will provide more endurance, altitude and speed to height than its predecessor in the demanding environments to which Britain’s expeditionary forces are expected to deploy, an analyst here said.

The King Air 350 ER, launched during the Paris Air Show two years ago, has more than eight hours of endurance and the flexibility to loiter low and slow or cruise at 300 knots and 35,000 feet, according to specifications released by the U.S. company at the time.

Neither Hawker Beechcraft nor Raytheon Systems in the United Kingdom would comment on the project. By press time, the Ministry of Defence had not responded to questions regarding the as-yet unannounced purchase.

It’s probably no coincidence, though, that Hawker Beechcraft invitations to guests to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo in the United Kingdom in July highlight the fact that the 350ER will be on display at the Royal Air Force’s Fairford base.

Versions of the King Air are widely used for special missions by the U.S. military and other armed forces. In March, the Wichita, Kan.-based aircraft maker announced it had sold five of the aircraft to the Iraqi Air Force. Aircraft range was put at 2,400 nautical miles in the company release.

The Islander force, which entered service in 1989 and saw extensive use during the terrorist troubles in Northern Ireland, has a cruising speed of 155 knots and a range of 380 nautical miles.

The King Air purchase is unconnected with ongoing efforts by the British to find a temporary replacement for the Air Corps’ Gazelle AH.1 reconnaissance helicopter, which will go out of service soon. The helicopter’s retirement could create a reconnaissance capability gap until the first of 45 Future Lynx helicopters ordered by the Ministry of Defence starts to enter service in 2013.

More ISTAR From Hermes

In addition to the King Air’s expected introduction into service, the British Army can expect a sizeable step-up of its ISTAR capabilities by the end of the year with an Israel-supplied UAV.

The Army’s Royal Artillery Regiment is expected to operate Elbit Systems’ Hermes 450s, purchased as an urgent operational requirement to provide tactical ISTAR for forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Leaving aside small UAVs like the Lockheed Martin Desert Hawk, which the British use mainly for force protection, the only unmanned vehicle operated by the armed forces here is the Phoenix. Few of those vehicles remain, though, and their performance is so poor in hot climates that the British cannot operate the Phoenix during the summer months in Iraq.

The Hermes 450 is already being purchased by the British as part of the 700 million pound ($1.4 billion) Watchkeeper program being led by prime contractor Thales UK. Watchkeeper deliveries are due to start by the end of 2010.

Originally, the MoD inserted a requirement in the Watchkeeper program that bidders be able to provide a stop-gap solution from the end of 2006 until the full UAV system entered service. That requirement was deleted by the perennially cash-strapped British due to budget problems. Now, under the urgent operational requirements system, the Treasury has paid for the capability fill-in.

Deliveries of the King Air and the Hermes are expected to roughly coincide with the delivery in the second half of this year of three General Atomics Predator B strategic UAVs, now known as the Reaper, also acquired for use by the Royal Air Force as an urgent operational requirement.

The service is scheduled to bring the Sentinel R1 battlefield surveillance aircraft into service this year to further improve ISTAR capabilities. •

comment ça se fait que la marine britannique, qui est legèrement superieure à la notre en quantité, ait seulement 36 000 marions alors que la marine française en a 55 000 ?

A t'on des gens payés à rien fouttre ? :lol:

en tout cas ils ont des destroyers capables de lancer des tomahawks dapuis pas mal de temps, alors que nous on doit attendre les que les horizons et barracuda soient équipés avant combien ? 6 ans ??!!!

les soldats anglais pris au serieux par les USA on en doute pas. mais l'armée française prise au serieux la bas, avec l'irak, la débacle de 40, etc... on est un peu victimes des préjugés.
peut etre mais c est les techniques de môssieur bigeard qui ont ete observees en algerie et pas l inverse le soldat US ne prends pas d initiatives et ca le perd (merci les chefs)

La difference est probablement explique par la plus grande role du "outsourcing" dans le Royal Navy. Le Royal Fleet Auxiliary par exemple employ plus de 2000 et elle a 19 navires.

Salut,

je viens de lire cette phrase : "Les soldats de sa gracieuse majesté sont à mes yeux avec nous ,les dignes soldats pouvant être pris au sérieux par les USA." dans le tout premier message.

Que vaut l'armée allemande, je pensais que ce pays possede une armée comme la notre.

Que vaut l'armée allemande, je pensais que ce pays possede une armée comme la notre.

Les Britanniques et nous ,nous avons une armée professionnelle servis par des professionnels. La bundeswehr a aussi des soldats professionnels mais grandement servis par des conscrits. De plus l'armée allemande va se voir dégrossir ses effectifs et ses équipements. (moins de blindés ,moins de MBT ,moins d'artillerie...)

Néamoins ,il vaut mieux continuer de parler de l'armée allemande sur un autre fil de discussion ,celui-ci est consacré à la British Army et à ses réformes.

Lockheed Martin anticipates LIMAWS® green light

Lockheed Martin UK Insys expects to be awarded a demonstration and manufacture (D&M) contract within the next few months for the Lightweight Mobile Artillery Weapon System (Rocket) vehicle, or LIMAWS®, which will be deployed by the British Army's medium forces.

The UK Defence Equipment and Support organisation issued the invitation to tender (ITT) in February to Lockheed Martin Insys UK and this has now been returned. A Main Gate decision is expected in late 2007 or early 2008, followed by a contract award.

Four pre-production LIMAWS® vehicles will be built for trials, which will include launching of the Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) that is already being acquired by the UK. These rounds will be launched from the upgraded M270B1 fully tracked MLRS currently in service with the Royal Artillery.

A troop of M270B1 MLRSs has been deployed to Afghanistan to provide a long-range precision strike capability. The M270B1 is an upgraded M270 that is fitted with the new Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control Universal Fire Control System (UFCS), which will be fitted to the LIMAWS®. The British Army is upgrading 27 M270s to the M270B1 configuration.

Lors du speech sur la strategie du UK en Irak, Gordon Brown annonce le achat de 140 Mastiff pour les missions en Irak et Afghanistan. Cela fait ~250 Mastiff pour l'armee d'ici a 2009.

le UK va achete 150 vehicules MRAP, nommé "Ridgback", pour le mission afghan...l'argent sera donne du fond d'urgence de la treasury  =)

Il sera plus leger que Mastiff mais on ne sais pas encore le choix...mon avis est le  4x4 Cougar (mais peute etre le Golan ou autre)

Le lien dit aussi que on va envoi plus de Sea King, avec les "carsons" rotors pour aider la performance
