Le plus récent porte-avions de l’US Navy, un géant de plusieurs milliards de dollars qui est le premier d’une nouvelle génération, est touché par un certain nombre de problèmes de performances, selon une évaluation interne. Des essais de lancement et récupération d’avions de combat ont même échoué.

 

Les premiers essais de l’USS Gerald R. Ford, le nouveau porte-avions de l’US Navy baptisé en novembre dernier, inquiètent l’US Navy : elle craint que le porte-avions ne puisse respecter certains des critères les plus attendus de cette nouvelle génération de bâtiments, en particulier l’augmentation du nombre d’avions que le porte-avions peut lancer rapidement. Elle craint qu’il puisse être même moins performant que les porte-avions actuellement en service. Le porte-avions subi actuellement des essais en Virginie et devrait être livré à la marine américaine en 2016. Montant de la facture : plus de 12 milliards $.

U.S. Navy Awards Lockheed Martin $84 Million Contract for Production of Paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds

Lockheed Martin received an $84.5 million contract on Dec. 23 from the U.S. Navy to produce paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR). Under the four-year indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver ELGTRs, shipping containers, logistics and product support to the U.S. Navy.

U.S., French Navies Conclude Combined Operations

 

GULF OF OMAN (NNS) -- Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) and French Navy Task Force 473 concluded five weeks of combined carrier strike group operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) Feb 2.

The two strike groups began conducting integrated operations Dec. 26 in the Gulf of Oman and have operated together in the northern Arabian Sea and the Arabian Gulf to enhance regional maritime security and stability.

Ships participating in the combined operations included USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), guided-missile cruisers USS Gettysburg (CG 64) and USS San Jacinto (CG 56), and guided-missile destroyers USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) and USS Mason (DDG 87), all assigned to HST CSG. French ships included French aircraft carrier and Task Force 473 flagship FS Charles de Gaulle (R 91), destroyers FS Forbin (D 620) and FS Jean de Vienne (D 643) and replenishment oiler FS Meuse (A 607).

"We executed a wide array of operations together with the Charles de Gaulle strike group," said Rear Adm. Kevin Sweeney, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10. "We conducted combined flight operations from both the Truman and the Charles de Gaulle as well as carrier landing qualifications on both aircraft carriers."

Lt. Cmdr. Rob Littman, an F/A-18 pilot assigned to the "Ragin Bulls" of Strike Fighter Squadron 37, is a U.S. Navy pilot who had the opportunity to land on Charles de Gaulle.

USS George H.W. Bush Arrives in Greece

 

PIRAEUS, Greece (NNS) -- The 10th Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) arrived in Piraeus, Greece, for a scheduled port visit Mar. 4.

While in port, Sailors will have the opportunity to explore Piraeus and the neighboring cities as well as take part in community relations events.

"I am really excited to visit the Acropolis," said Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Chase Tallent, a member of VFA-31 aboard George H.W. Bush. "I also can't wait to learn about all the history."

George H.W. Bush will be hosting a reception on board for dignitaries and participating in community relations projects.

Sailors will be enjoying some free time to take in the local sites, experience the culture and volunteer their time at a local orphanage.

Quand il y a une crise internationale, la première question que pose un président américain est : "où est le porte-avions le plus proche ?" "Well, Mr President", le plus gros porte-avions de l’US Navy est aujourd’hui en Méditerranée, vient d’arriver pour escale à Athènes, d’où il pourrait facilement atteindre la Mer Noire. L’USS Bush n’est pas sur le pied de guerre mais s’entraîne de façon intensive et serait prêt au cas où la Maison Blanche lui donnait ordre de partir en Mer Noire pour faire pression sur les forces russes qui ont investi la Crimée.
