South Korea’s 2021-2025 defense blueprint which was revealed yesterday provides some fresh details on the plans to develop an aircraft carrier capability for the Republic of Korea (RoK) Navy: The LPX-II project will be a dedicated light aircraft carrier for F-35B, it will not be an amphibious assault ship.

South Korea Selects MH-60R Helicopter For ROK Navy

South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) today issued a statement announcing that it has selected Sikorsky's MH-60R Seahawk maritime helicopter for the ROK Navy's MOH Batch 2 requirement.

ROK Navy Commissions Second Daegu-Class FFX Batch II Frigate

The Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy today commissioned its second Daegu-class FFX Batch II frigate. ROKS Gyeongnam was built by local shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and launched on 21 June 2019.

South Korea Officially Starts LPX-II Aircraft Carrier Program

On 30 December 2020, details for South Korea's LPX-II light aircraft carrier were finalized and the necessary budget was officially allocated in the 2020~2024 Mid-Term Defense Plan (국방중기계획).

The information which was first reported by local media JoongAng Ilbo means that after about a year of preliminary planning and debate, the program is now officially underway. This ship is expected to enter service with the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy in 2030.

La marine sud-coréenne met en service le premier sous-marin de classe KSS-III, capable de lancer des SLBM

La marine de la République de Corée (RoKN) a mis en service son premier sous-marin d'attaque diesel-électrique (SSK) de conception locale, capable de déployer des missiles balistiques lancés depuis un sous-marin (SLBM).

Nommé Dosan An Chang-ho (numéro de fanion SS 083), le bateau de 83,5 m de long, qui est le premier d'une flotte de neuf sous-marins de classe KSS-III prévue par la RoKN, est entré en service lors d'une cérémonie qui s'est tenue le 13 août dans les installations de Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) à Okpo sur l'île de Geoje.

Équipé de batteries au plomb fabriquées localement et d'un système de propulsion indépendant de l'air (AIP) comprenant des piles à combustible à hydrogène, le Dosan An Chang-ho devrait être déployé de manière opérationnelle à partir d'août 2022 après avoir subi une série d'évaluations des performances et des capacités opérationnelles, selon un communiqué du RoKN.

Équipé d'une technologie de réduction du bruit, le sous-marin, qui déplace 3 358 tonnes en surface et 3 705 tonnes en plongée, a une vitesse maximale déclarée d'environ 20 kt, une autonomie de croisière de 10 000 milles marins et peut accueillir un équipage de 50 personnes, selon Janes Fighting Ships .

Lancé par DSME en septembre 2018, Dosan An Chang-ho , qui a une largeur de 9,6 m, est désormais le plus grand sous-marin de l'inventaire du RoKN : environ 18 m de plus en longueur et 3,3 m de plus en largeur que les bateaux de classe KSS-II de 1 800 tonnes du service.

Il est équipé d'une suite de sonars actifs et passifs du LIG Nex1, comprenant des réseaux cylindriques de proue, de flanc, d'interception, de télémétrie et remorqués, ainsi que du système de gestion intégrée du combat (ICMS) de Hanwha Systems Naval Shield. Il est également équipé du périscope d'attaque et du mât optronique Safran, ainsi que du système de mesure de soutien électronique (RESM) du radar Indra Pegaso.

The ROK Navy completed the final phase of the Korean Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (K-SLBM) development, by successfully launching the ballistic missile from a 3000t submarine under water. South Korea has now officially become the 8th country in the world that possesses indigenous SLBMs.
