Les Q-Warrior, un système de réalité virtuelle basé sûr Google Glass développé par BAE Systems, on peut dire des Glass en version militaire. Cet équipement est un casque avec un système de réalité virtuel intégré. Un carreau recouvre un œil du soldat et permet un affichage couleur 3D.

L’idée est de donner aux forces armées un certain avantage grâce à une combinaison de données et d’analyses. Ainsi, le système de réalité virtuelle permettra la vision nocturne améliorée, des informations sur les points clés, la possibilité de détecter les forces alliées et ennemies, avoir accès à certaines données personnelles ou encore coordonner des unités entre elles. Q-Warrior permettra au soldat de pouvoir bénéficier d’informations supplémentaires...

 

Même si je crois que c'est un peu tôt, et que ça ne sera pas pour demain... les Google Glass se rapprochent de plus en plus de l’étape de commercialisation, alors ;

Dans l'impossibilité de freiner à temps, le conducteur du char de tête a pu braquer au dernier moment son char vers la gauche pour n'écraser que le moteur de la Toyota Yaris.
 
La jeune conductrice de 18 ans est saine et sauf.

Ca me rappelle une scène à Portes-les-Valences il y a bien longtemps, près du triage où une colonne d'AMX10RC allait embarquer sur voie ferrée. Il y avait une toute petite travée passant sous les voies, qu'il fallait emprunter pour atteindre l'embranchement menant au quai d'embarquement. Une P4 avec gyrophare ouvre la voie. Toutes les voitures s'arrêtent pour la laisser passer. La P4 s'engage pour guider la colonne, et là un fou furieux déboule en doublant tout le monde parce que y a pas de raison ils font chier les milis.

Le gars s'est alors retrouvé nez à nez (à cause de la pente de la travée) avec le canon de 105 de l'AMX de tête qui venait de s'engager logiquement à la suite de la P4.

La marche arrière fut bien plus piteuse que le coup d'accélérateur.

Les canons de 155 du 11e RAMa vont donner de la voix sur la lande presqu'écossaise du 6 au 15 juillet! Ce sera une première pour le Caesar. Mais pas pour les bigors du 11 qui sont jumelés avec le 29e Commando Regiment Royal Artillery et prennent donc régulièrement part à des manœuvres avec leurs camarades britanniques (ou des échanges, comme en mars dernier, voir photo ci-dessous).L'exercice, qui verra le déploiement d'au moins 2 pièces et d'une soixantaine de militaires du 11e RAMa, aura lieu au camp d'Otterburn, le plus grand champ de tir du Royaume-Uni, avec ses 11 750 ha.

Revision Military – UK Virtus program

The latest issue of the British Army’s Soldier Magazine featured an article on the Virtus Program, including details on the kit. In the US, we have the Soldier Protection System program which is quite similar to Virtus. Among the gear displayed, you can see Revision’s Cobra Plus Helmet system and Sawfly Military Eyewear.

Additionally, Revision Military has released the following info on their involvement in the Virtus Program:

Revision Military, a world leader in protective soldier solutions, has won the head sub-systems portion of the contract awarded to Source Vagabond Systems Ltd., to provide UK Troops with new kit as part of the Virtus program. The custom head protection solution, known as the Batlskin Cobra Plus, offers an ultra-lightweight helmet that exceeds the UK’s stringent ballistic and impact requirements and can be coupled with the Modular Protective Attachment System (MPAS) for full face protection. In addition, the Sawfly Spectacle and WolfSpider Goggle Systems will be provided for use when full-face coverage is not required.

The first deliveries of Cobra Plus head protection systems are planned to be shipped quickly with 9,000 full systems scheduled for Fall 2015 enabling fielding to first-recipient troops in early 2016.

The Army has created its most senior post ever for a soldier.

The new role of Army Sergeant Major has been created to ensure the Army's most senior staff understand what life is like for soldiers serving in the British Army. This vital link between those making decisions and those carrying out the day to day tasks falls to Sergeant Major Glenn Haughton.

He was hand-picked for the new role by the Chief of the General Staff but the new Army Sergeant Major – whose appointment was announced in January 2015 - plays down the achievement and puts it down to good fortune as well as ambition.

For a boy who left school at sixteen before he had even seen his GCSE results, Sergeant Major Haughton has come a long way. He is the first to admit he was never academic but does concede with a smile that from the day he joined the Grenadier Guards in 1988, he had his eye on the Regimental Sergeant Major’s badge – he got his hands on it in 2011 with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

Sergeant Major Haughton was selected for Late Entry Commission in 2012 and went on to put officer cadets at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst through their paces as the Academy Sergeant Major. In doing so, he joined a select group of 30 Command Sergeant Majors in the British Army, selected from among the strongest applicants on the Late Entry Commissioning Boards. He now heads up that group as the Army Sergeant Major, providing guidance and direction from the very top of the Army, and feeding back the soldiers’ voice to Higher Command.

 

Soldiers’ representative

As the Army Sergeant Major, he has input across Army matters and sits on a number of boards and committees. Mr Haughton is a member of the Lower Honours Committee, the Army Medals Board, the Army Dress Committee and is a trustee of the Army Central Fund. He is the only serving soldier who is also an Army Benevolent Fund trustee and, crucially, the only soldier ever to be an executive member of the Executive Committee Army Board (ECAB). This means he has a say at the most senior level on the key policy decisions that will affect the Army and its serving members. He sees himself as the soldiers’ representative to CGS and his contribution at ECAB as crucial.

“The Generals are listening to the soldiers. CGS has said my role there is to keep ECAB honest and relevant,” explained Mr Haughton.

 

Disciplinarian

Mr Haughton may have reached the pinnacle of his career as a Sergeant Major and have the ear of the Chief of the General Staff, but he has not forgotten his roots as one of the Army’s disciplinarians. He has kept the unmistakable serious demeanour and stature of an RSM – his added status and connection to the head of the army just give him an even more effective platform from which to stamp out unacceptable behaviour.

He sees sport as a key component of any soldier’s career and wellbeing and sets the standard as vice president of Army Football. He is also a passionate champion of the Army Leadership Code, an advocate of the Army Servicewomen’s Network and LGBT forum, and promotes the idea of maximising talent in the Army.

 

“All of you can aspire”

Despite his own faltering academic start in life, the Sergeant Major is keen to encourage soldiers to take advantage of the education available during their service. Although he kept his eventual GCSE results close to his chest, he has since redeemed himself and set the example to the younger generation. During his career, he has gained an Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and is now studying for an MA in Business Administration. The new Sergeant Major sees these qualifications as a means to match his peers in the civilian world, he said: “The world and our enemies are always developing and we need to keep up. I always say of course we should remain tough, but smart in a complex environment.”

Despite dedicating so much time and effort to his career and the soldiers he serves to lead, Sergeant Major Haughton has had time to fit in family time with his wife and two children. With characteristic humility and a matter-of-fact tone, he credits them and colleagues around him with his success, saying he could not have done it without their support.

At the end of his 3-year tenure, he will be moving on to the year-long Intermediate Command and Staff Course at Shrivenham, for which he will take up his substantive promotion to Major.

If he has one message to the soldiers of the British Army, it is that he is no exception: “All of you can aspire to be Command Sergeant Majors, and all Command Sergeant Majors have the chance to compete for the prestigious appointment that is the Army Sergeant Major.”

Pearson Engineering (Stand S8-221) has its largest ever range of combat engineering equipment at DSEI 2015.

Equipment on show includes a Full Width Mine Plough, a Straight Obstacle Blade, a Super Light Weight Roller and the unique Pearson Engineering Route Opening and Clearing Capability (PEROCC) system.

The PEROCC has the capability not only to detect explosive threats but also to defeat obstacles and proof routes at tempo while maintaining a high level of self-protection and self-repairability.

For a high level of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the floor of the cabin is of the double V-type. If required, a remote weapon station armed with a machine gun can be fitted for self-defence purposes.

For route clearing, the PEROCC is fitted with fullwidth heavy-effect countermine rollers at the front.

Installed on the right side of the vehicle is a fully articulated arm to provide the platform with an interrogation and manipulation capability for the inspection of suspicious objects. The arm can be fitted with a variety of attachments, including a ripper claw, a bucket, a grapple and even a ground-penetrating radar array.

In addition to undertaking production and development of its extensive range of counter IED, combat earth-moving and route proving equipment, Pearson Engineering’s business has been expanded to include repair and overhaul as well as armoured structure manufacture and testing.

Depuis plusieurs années, la 9e Brigade d’Infanterie de Marine envoie une équipe pour la représenter au Royal Marines Operational Shooting Competition (RMOSC). Du 5 au 17 septembre 2015, 8 marsouins de la 4e compagnie et de la compagnie d’éclairage et d’appui du 2e de Marine ont participé à cette compétition particulièrement exigeante et intense, en affrontant 11 équipes internationales au camp d’entraînement de Altcar, près de Liverpool.
