Ajax data sharing platform selected

25th July 2016 - 8:30 by the Shephard News Team

Ajax data sharing platform selected

Sighting systems on the British Army’s Ajax vehicle fleet will use PrismTech’s Vortex OpenSplice as the data-sharing platform. The system’s selection by Thales was announced on 21 July.

Thales is under contract with General Dynamics to supply sighting systems and ancillary equipment for the Ajax programme.

Vortex OpenSplice is a comprehensive and intelligent data-sharing platform that provides device-to-device data sharing in real time – secure, reliable delivery of voluminous data. It will enable high-level communications and interoperability between the vehicles’ advanced on-board systems.

The system is based on the Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard required by the UK Ministry of Defence’s Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) mandate.

David Low, head of land optronics UK for Thales, said: ‘The Thales sights and associated image processing units are part of a real-time network that communicates via DDS. Vortex OpenSplice provides the dependable communication means in this complex environment enabling the full power of the Thales subsystems to be realised.’
