  14. French CSG Retasked With NATO Support Role The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its strike group are being retasked to support NATO following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces. The French CSG which is currently deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea as part of the "CLEMENCEAU 22" mission is currently conducting a logistics stop in Cyprus. It will then be reassigned to assist NATO a French Navy (Marine Nationale) spokesman told Naval News. [...] Update – The French Navy reached out to Naval News following the publication of this article to add the following details: The French CSG will not operated under NATO command but will contribute its airwing to NATO. The details are still being worked on but this could include Combat Air Patrol (CAP) missions with Rafale fighters, surveillance missions with E-2C Hawkeye aircraft and ISR missions with ATL2 MPA and Rafale fighters with the RECO NG pod. The area of operation of the aircraft will be the Black Sea. During its logistics stop in Cyprus (during which maintenance operation and staff rotation will take place), the CSG is getting prepared to conduct new operations in relation with current events, either within the NATO framework or within the national framework. As part of its participation in operation Inherent Resolve / Chammal, the CSG airwing contributed 72 sorties to the international coalition: 14 with the E-2C and 58 with the Rafale fighters representing a total of 400 flight hours. “We will adapt our tactical posture to take into account the aggressiveness of Russia at the strategic level. It is obvious to us that what is currently happening in Ukraine will have an impact in the Eastern Mediterranean” French Navy spokesman The French Navy added that it is not looking at escalating tensions, but to prevent the risks of misunderstanding and misconception. To avoid such issues, the French Navy set up a direct line of communication between its Mediterranean Fleet Command (known as CECMED, in Toulon) and the Russian Forces command in Latakia, Syria. https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2022/02/french-csg-retasked-with-nato-support-role/
  15. Future Cruise And Anti-Ship Weapon FC/ASW Program Reaches New Milestone The head of the French DGA, his British DE&S counterpart and the CEO of MBDA signed a bilateral agreement and contracts for the continued preparatory work for the Future Cruise and Anti-Ship Weapon (FC/ASW) Programme. The kick-off meeting was held on 17th February 2022. The objective of the FC/ASW Programme is to replace from 2028, the capabilities currently in service within the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force (RAF), Marine Nationale (French Navy), and Armée de l’air et de l’espace (French Air Force) for anti-ship and deep strike missions. Preparatory work has been underway since 2017 culminating in two weapon concepts. With these new contracts, MBDA, the European missile company, and its industrial partners from the two countries, will continue to work on the definition of two missile designs and will assess their performance to counter future threats and to deliver operational advantage through long-range strike. https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2022/02/future-cruise-and-anti-ship-weapon-fc-asw-program-reaches-new-milestone/
