  4. Le nouveau HH-60W vient d’être baptisé : "Jolly Green II" Cela fera plaisir aux nostalgiques du vietnam! Scramble: "That Others May Live' continues with Jolly Green II The US Air Force named its newest combat rescue helicopter, the Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. HH-60W, the “Jolly Green II,” following the legendary tradition of the Vietnam-era HH-3E Jolly Green and HH-53 Super Jolly Green crews who pioneered the combat search and rescue mission. Secretary of the Air Force Barbara M. Barrett revealed the name at the 2020 Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando on 27 February 2020. The primary mission of the 108 planned HH-60Ws of the USAF will be conducting day and night combat search and rescue operations into hostile environments to recover isolated personnel during war. The HH-60W, that replaces the HH-60G Pave Hawk, will also be tasked to perform military operations other than war, including civil search and rescue, medical evacuation, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, security cooperation/aviation advisory, NASA space flight support, and rescue command and control. The first two units to be fielded with the Jolly Green II will be the 41st Rescue Squadron at Moody AFB (GA) and the 512th Rescue Squadron at Kirtland AFB (NM). The photo shows HH-60W 14-4483 (as 14483), the third known serial. 14-4481 flew for the first time 17 May 2019." https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/32384/air-force-names-new-hh-60w-rescue-helicopters-after-jolly-green-giants-of-vietnam

    Armée de l'air du Canada

Premier vol du CP-140 Block IV ou CP-140M. Les grandes nouveautés sont une SATCOM, la liaison 16 et un système d’autodéfense. Scramble: "The Royal Canadian Air Force revealed the first flight mid-February of the upgraded CP-140 Aurora (serial 140108) as part of an initial flight test programme The secretive Block IV-modified CP-140 made a test flight to verify the safety of the design for flight from Halifax to Greenwood (NS). The flight was carried out by a crew of the 14 Wing and was fully supported by the RCAF Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE). The Block IV modifications - the last of the modernisation phases for the Aurora - include three major improvements; a beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) satellite communication (SATCOM), a link 16 Datalink, and a self-defence system. The initial operational capability (IOC) for the Block IV is expected in June 2020, followed by a full operational capability (FOC) in September 2022. The Aurora Incremental Modernisation Project (AIMP) started in June 2015 and involved 23 individual projects to acquire, integrate and install new mission systems and sensors onto the aircraft for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. CP-140 104108 arrived for modification on 6 November 2017, while the actual work started on 10 October 2018. The integration testing of upgrades on this prototype aircraft began on 13 December 2018, and the ground test readiness review was conducted on 29 April 2019, clearing the way for the start of ground testing. The modified aircraft are designated as CP-140M. The RCAF operates a fleet of seventeen CP-140s in the primary airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) role of which fourteen are expected to be modified. Canada has planned two upgrade programmes for its fleet, the aforementioned AIMP and the Aurora Structural Life Extension Project (ASLEP). The latter is to increase the aircraft’s capability and operational life respectively. Both AIMP and ASLEP will cost the Canadian taxpayer USD 1,983 billion and this will extend the operational life of the CP-140 Aurora fleet to 2030. Photo credit: RCAF"

  10. Nouveau lot Qatari au départ avec 3 appareils, un DQ QA206 et deux EQ QA215 et QA227. Scramble: "Fifth batch of Qatar Emiri Air Force Rafales delivered The fifth batch of, this time only three, Rafales left Bordeaux/Mérignac (France) on delivery to Qatar on 25 February 2020. The aircraft involved this time are Rafale DQ (dual seat) QA206 and Rafale EQ (single seat) QA215 and QA227. The aircraft were accompanied by QEAF C-17A Globemaster III (A7-)MAO that arrived a few days before, on 22 February. As with the previous deliveries in July, September and December we have now learned the aircraft have performed some fuel stops along the way to Qatar. Together with the C-17A the three Rafale stopped at Souda Bay (Greece) and Incirlik (Turkey). Only the first delivery in June was supported by Armée de l'Air (AdlA, French Air Force) tankers. Weather during the time of departure was atrocious with loads of rain, low clouds and wind. Also the aircraft took off in the wrong direction for the spotters. No pictures have reached us unfortunately. QA227 below was captured on 10 February 2020. Credit: Maciej Świderski Photo Credit: Didier Durieux‎"

    Armée de l'air Russe

Les Russes voudraient des dizaines de Su-34 supplémentaires. Scramble: "Russia plans to sign a contract for the supply of several dozen new Su-34Ms (As a bonus, an insight look at the older, still existing Su-34 airframes) Thirty years after the Su-34s first flight, the Russian Ministry of Defense plans to sign a contract for the supply of several dozen new Sukhoi Su-34M (T10VM) front-line bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces. It has been recently stated by sources within Russia's Military-Industrial Complex that the Su-34Ms combat Electronic Warfare capabilities will be based on the "Owl" development work (ОКР "Сыч"). It is expected that the development is merely dictated by the deployment of the Su-34. The Sukhoi side-by-side seating front-line bomber has been deployed (and thoroughly evaluated) to Syria since late 2015. No export customers have been reveiled sofar. In the past only Algeria expressed their interest in the Su-34. Initially named the Sukhoi T10V (Su-27 derative), also known as Su-27IB and export version Su-32FN, the aircraft became later known as the Su-34 (NATO code name "Fullback"). Without the prototype and pre-production aircraft, the Russian Aerospace Forces now have some 128 Su-34 aircraft flying within their operational units. Over the years, four have been written off due to crashes and other accidents. Scramble expects that initially only 24 new Su-34Ms will be ordered. This is only to cover the replacement of the oldest Sukhoi Su-24MR/MP airframes that are still in Russia's inventory. More new Su-34Ms are not expected. It is likely that Russia will focus on further development and series production of the Sukhoi Su-57 twin-engine multirole fourth-plus-generation jet fighter. As a stop gap, upgraded older Su-34s, will likely follow in the coming years. Although the Su-34 will probably remain in service within the Russian Aerospace Forces for decades to come, the oldest Su-34 airframes are stored at multiple locations like the State Flight Test Centres at Zhukovsky and Akthubinsk. Scramble expects that some of those Su-34s will end up shortly with museums throughout Russia."

    Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master

L'Azerbaijian souhaite acquerir 10 M-346 plus 15 en option. Scramble: "Azerbaijan next user of the M346 Azerbaijan is set to join the community of countries using the Alenia Aermacchi M346 Master. The Azerbaijani president, Ilham Aliyev, finally signed a deal to purchase Leonardo's successful jet trainer. The Azərbaycan Hərbi Hava Qüvvələri already voiced its intent to purchase ten aircraft with an option for fifteen more back in 2018. Somehow, this deal had not yet materialised. The Azerbaijan AF currently uses the L-39 in the advanced trainer role along with Su-25s as attack platforms. The latter may eventually also be replaced by M346s."

  18. On parle d'une commande supplémentairement de 8 PC-21... Scramble "Eight more Pilatus for the Armée de l'Air? Talks have started for an additional order for Pilatus PC-21s. This comes a little over a year after the final two of seventeen new built Pilatus PC-21s for the Armée de l'Air (AdlA, French Air Force) were delivered to Base Aerienne 709 Cognac (France). New fighter pilot students currently fly 135 hours on the PC-21 in the basic and advanced part of their training. Then they move to the Alphajet. A request for tenders has started for the phase IV of the training of future French fighter pilots on 15 February 2020. Currently this consists of 50 flying hours on the Alphajet (see picture below) at Cazaux. The PC-21 has been in use now for some time and has proven to be a much more affordable solution. For example, a flight hour on the PC-21 is around 1,500 EUR compared to around 7,800 for the Alphajet. The exact number of additional PC-21s is not specified. The number eight however, is suggested in a report for the Air Force for 2020:" http://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/15/budget/plf2020/a2305-tVI.asp?fbclid=IwAR3ez2xTDzd24leONkY57h1XoQTR6H32B-ZpxcbRkgrndvuYPwAHRAMl6-Y#P250_53016
